Katie Malyon, Solicitor, B.A. LL.B (Hons) AFMIA

Katie Malyon has been a registered migration agent for over 15 years and is recognised as one of the leading immigration law practitioners in Australia. The only Australian immigration lawyer personally referred to in the Asia Pacific 500 and also referred to in the 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 International Who's Who of Corporate Immigration Law, Katie is “highly recommended” by her clients.

She has recently been named by the Australian Financial Review as one of the Best Lawyers - Immigration 2010 - 2011 in Australia. Her firm, Katie Malyon & Associates, was joint winner of the ACQ Law Awards 2009 for Corporate Immigration Law Firm of the Year - Australia and the winner in 2010 and 2011.  Most recently, Katie Malyon & Associates was recognised in the Business Review Weekly's BRW Fast Starters 2010.

Prior to opening her own boutique immigration law firm, Katie was a Partner with employment law firm Australian Business Lawyers heading up the Business and Skilled Migration Practice Group. Formerly, she was with national law firm Clayton Utz for 15 years.

Katie regularly writes articles and presents seminars and workshops on immigration - for clients and the profession - both in Australia and overseas.

Antoinette Younes – LL.M, MA (Psychology), LL.B, BA

Special Counsel

Antoinette Younes is admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW and is a registered Psychologist as well as Migration Agent Registered Number 0960885.

With extensive experience in administrative and immigration law, Antoinette served as a full-time Member of the Refugee Review Tribunal (RRT) and the Migration Review Tribunal (MRT) for 6 years, where she determined around 850 reviews in relation to a variety of visa subclasses.  Antoinette brings to the Firm an in-depth understanding of courts' and Tribunals' practices and procedures as well as case-management expertise. 

Antoinette previously held a position as a Deputy Registrar in the Supreme Court of NSW.  She worked in the Common Law Division, Equity, Probate and the Court of Appeal in addition to the Criminal Court of Appeal.  Antoinette was also on the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court's List of Mediators.

Antoinette has had experience in various practice areas, currently specialising in administrative and immigration law, including merits and judicial review.  She has extensive experience dealing directly with clients, both individual and corporate.

Alex Kaufman, BA (Asian Studies) LLB

Senior Associate

Alex Kaufman is a qualified Solicitor and Registered Migration Agent (MARN 0601370) with 5 years experience in business, investment and employment related migration as well as the provision of associated legal services.

Alex’s migration experience includes:
  • advising and acting for public sector, corporate and individual clients to achieve the best employment related outcomes through Australia's Temporary Business Entry program.
  • assisting corporate clients and entrepreneurs to facilitate trade and investment activity through Australia's Business Skills program
  • advising and acting for individuals in obtaining Permanent Residence and Citizenship of Australia
  • representing clients before Tribunals and Courts in visa decision review proceedings
  • advising and acting for employers in relation to Departmental monitoring and auditing processes
  • assisting clients in relation to ancillary and post settlement legal services including Customs / Australian Quarantine Inspection Service requirements, Foreign Investment Review Board applications, purchase of business / real property, leasing of commercial premises and referrals to integrated taxation and accounting services.
Alex completed a Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) in 1997 and spent a number of years teaching Business English in Guangzhou before returning to Australia, working in film production, marketing and completing a Bachelor of Laws in 2004.

Alex's client base includes mining interests, health service providers, financial institutions, recruitment businesses, education providers and high net worth individuals.

Alex is conversational in Mandarin Chinese.

Sal Mohebbaty, LL.B, BIR

Solicitor, Senior Advocate

Sal Mohebbaty is a qualified Solicitor and Registered Migration Agent (MARN 1171488) with extensive experience in immigration law, specialising in business and employment related visas for temporary and permanent residence in Australia.

Holding degrees in both Law
and International Relations from Bond University, she has also completed the
Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, and the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice where she received the Academic Excellence Award.  Sal is also currently studying for her Master of Laws at the University of Sydney on a part-time basis.

With experience working in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) at both Brisbane and Gold Coast offices, Sal has an excellent understanding of internal polices and procedures and can provide timely solutions to immigration problems.  Sal also has diverse experience having worked overseas for a couple of years.

Sal brings to her client's matters an enormous depth of understanding of DIAC's decision-making.
